Membership FAQ
Why become a member?
Every member who joins Q Law grows our capacity to carry out our Mission. We are stronger united and growing numbers mean more influence we may exercise on behalf of LGBTQ+ New Jersey residents. Need more of a reason? You will also have exclusive access to network among fellow Q Law members, mentorship, voting rights to direct the future of the organization, and other privileges and benefits as they become available with the Organization's growth.

Who may become a member?
Q Law is open to all genders and all sexual orientations, regardless of residency, as long as you are committed to our Mission and you have a "professional relationship" to the legal field, what ever that may look like. Some examples of legal professionals include: licensed attorneys; law clerks; judiciary employees; professors of law; paralegals; legal secretaries; legislative aides; law librarians; those currently enrolled in a law school or a masters or doctorate program related to the legal field; recent graduates (less than two years) of such a program related to the legal field; retirees after 15 years of professional work in the legal field. For more information about membership, please see our Bylaws.

Why do students pay for membership?
Written into the structure of Q Law's Bylaws, students who meet our membership requirements are equal members of Q Law. Unlike other bar associations, this means students have equal voting and membership rights within Q Law and will have just as much a say as attorney members in driving the organization's activities. We know it is tough to be a student, but paying these dues shows your commitment to us as we hope to show to you.
